RED FORT DELHI, PRIDE OF MUGHAL DYNASTY

The Red Fort was built in the 17th century as Shah Jahan’s palace and was built when he used it as the capital city. The Red Fort has many pavilions which depict the creativity of the Mughal emperor. This palace was designed by the architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori. The Red Fort is built on the banks of the holy river Yamuna. Let me tell you that it took 10 years to build this big Red Fort. This palace has been the residence of many emperors and kings who ruled it from its inception. The Red Fort is named ‘Lal Quila’ because it is built in red sandstone. The Red Fort is one such place in the country where the Prime Minister of India delivers his speech on Independence Day.

When Shah Jahan ruled this fort, it was called Shahjahanabad. Now it is called Delhi. When Aurangzeb ruled the Mughal dynasty after Shah Jahan ruled this fort, the Red Fort began to lose its sheen. Note that the Red Fort has a silver roof which was later replaced with a copper roof to raise money. Subsequently in the year 1793, a Persian emperor Nadir Shah captured the Red Fort and took away valuable possessions from the fort.

The Marathas defeated the 16th Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II and ruled Delhi for 20 years. He was later defeated by the British and took away all the valuable possessions inside the fort including the Kohinoor diamond. The British looted valuable goods such as Bahadur Shah Zafar’s crown, Shah Jahan’s cup of wine and much more and sent it to Great Britain. The Red Fort monument once used to be a magnificent structure, made of precious stones and metals.

The Red Fort was built in 1639 by Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor, as the palace of his capital Shahjahanabad. Its name is Red Fort because of its huge walls of red sandstone. This fort is very close to the old Salimgarh Fort built by Islam Shah Suri in 1546 AD.The royal part of this fort consists of a row of pavilions, known as the Stream of Paradise (Nahar-e-Bihisht). The fort complex is the part that is known to represent the area of ​​Shah Jahan and Mughal creativity.
